The D.C. Bankruptcy Information Center
Is Bankruptcy right for me?
"Bankruptcy?!" It's a scary word, right? Wrong! Bankruptcy is a tool that the credit system and government endorse as a way to legitimately and lawfully get out of debt. The faster that you can get over the stereotype that its a "bad thing," the better. Why? I have never met anyone who is over their head in debt -- $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $150,000 -- who, after that debt is erased from their bills, says that it was a bad thing. The truth is that the playing field hasn't been fair for a long time.
A decision whether or not to file for bankruptcy is not an easy one. But at the same time, a decision whether or not to keep treading water financially and drowning in debt is also not easy to do. This site is here to help consumers who are primarily behind on consumer or personal debt. It is not designed for businesses, though you can also learn a thing or two here, or corporations. Why? Because we believe that consumers are the ones who need the most help. Which is why we are here.
Everyone always askes,
"HOW CAN I GET OUT OF DEBT?"
"CAN I STOP THE BANK FROM FORECLOSING MY HOUSE?"
"IS THERE ANY WAY TO STOP THE HARASSING CREDITORS FROM CALLING?"
"HOW DO I GET AHEAD WHEN CREDIT CARD COMPANIES ALWAYS RAISE RATES?"
"WHAT CAN I DO TO PROTECT MY FAMILY & OUR FINANCIAL FUTURE?"
The answer to all of these questions, is that you can take control if you know what to do.
This website is designed to give you, the consumer, the basic information that you need, FREE OF COST, that will help you decide if you can afford to do nothing. At the top of each page you will see basic STEPS that you can follow to learn more about whether bankruptcy is right for you. Its not legal advice, just guidance. Scroll through the steps, take some notes, and if you have questions, reach out to us so we can help. This site is managed by a local D.C. company that truly has the consumer's interests at heart.
